Russia is losing the war in Ukraine and there are very serious tensions throughout the security sector - between the army, private military companies and security services. There are no mechanisms to stabilise these processes and this is a very high risk, as Russia is about to suffer further serious losses in Ukraine. This is what Assoc.Prof. Dr. Velizar Shalamanov, Director of Defence Capabilities and Innovation at the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria, said in the program “The World Is Business” with host Ivaylo Lakov.
“It is obvious that Russia does not achieve its goals and obviously someone has to take the blame,” Shalamanov said.
“One of the reasons for this escalation was precisely to distract ourselves in Vilnius on deepening Ukraine’s assistance and a rapid offensive that would bring nearer the time when Ukraine’s main theme would be recovery, growth in Eastern Europe, new technologies, to bring us back to the topics that seem to be controlled only by the Russians and these are the topics of nuclear blackmail, the use of terrorism in one form or another as in Nova Kahovka. And indeed there is opposition at this level,” Shalamanov pointed out.
According to him, what is happening in Russia is a signal that something in power is wrong there and soon there may be some sort of outcome. Power in Russia is trying to be increasingly concentrated and increasingly out of control, but this creates private military companies, private relations, which further undermines its influence.
The good thing about this situation was that it escalated and found a solution within 24 hours, but during that time it reflected more on the domestic economic situation in Russia than on the international markets, said Pavel Bandilov, CEO of BPD Industrial Real Estate Fund REIT.
First we saw a decline in the ruble and a euro was exchanged for over 100 rubles, which to date slightly calmed down, but no matter what, the ruble is in a lower position than it finished on Friday.
The recovery of Ukraine and the companies that take the big orders cannot fail to affect the accounts and, respectively, the shares of the companies themselves, the interviewer said.
For Russia it will be extremely difficult to return to the markets it has been to and I do not know if some of its leadership understands what a long road should be, said Bandilov.
