Bloomberg TV Bulgaria survey
The great innovation race has put Europe in an unfamiliar role. The continent has to catch up with Asia and the US, but at the moment it has no leading companies in the field.
So Bloomberg TV Bulgaria asked leading experts: how can Europe build corporate champions?
To lead, Europe must remove the regulatory burden that prevents the creation of corporate giants on the scale of Airbus, ASML or Novo Nordisk. Blocking mergers stifles our competitiveness against the US and China.
Without a developed capital markets union, the sector is stuck with conservative bank financing. Without venture capital, new companies and AI talent leave in droves for the other side of the Atlantic. The current Green Deal makes production even more expensive. Europe urgently needs less bureaucracy, tax incentives for innovation and a pragmatic migration policy aimed at attracting highly skilled talent.
